Vineyard Rorick Heritage Vineyard, right out of Sienna Foothills, is one of the most magical California vineyards we have visited. The vines are own-rooted and planted in 1974 in schist soils over a limestone bedrock and was recently purchased by Matthew Rorick and his family. Home to over 16 grape varieties, it is one of the few vineyards in California to present all the necessary elements for phenomenal grape growing. From the handful of soil types (schist, quartz, marble, limestone – to name a few) to the different exposures and elevations, Rorick Heritage Vineyard is providing fruit to many of California's top winemakers. The vine age, elevation, and rocky soils create incredibly low yielding vines with the tiniest of clusters.Matthew Rorick is currently converting all farming practices to organic. Soil Soil is extremely rocky. Schist and limestone. Viticulture Matthew Rorick is currently converting all farming practices to organic. Vinification The grapes were hand harvested and gently pressed using a long Champagne press cycle. Juice was transferred to neutral barrels and fermentation occurred spontaneously. The wine received a small amount of sulfur immediately before bottling. Production 486 cases. Notes “The wine has a nose strongly scented with orange blossoms, apricot, and the sweet cream of a pastry shop. The palate has a remarkable weight indicative of the elevation and concentration in the grapes. The fresh citrus is met with ripe pear and white flowers. The finish is bright with a pleasing mineral charm.” - Michael Cruse Back to Current Releases
