Riesling Kick-on Ranch 2017
Bottle Sizes 750ml
Country United States
Appellation Santa Barbara County
Wine Type White - Still
Vineyard Kick-on Ranch is a small vineyard located to the northwest of Sta. Rita Hills in California. It is one of the coldest and windiest sites in Santa Barbara County. Graham's section sits on a mild southwest facing hill. This aspect helps expose the vines to the cold air flowing off of the Pacific Ocean. This cold air allows for a long hang-time while avoiding too much Botrytis. The grapes selected for this vineyard designate are only the cleanest innermost clusters on the vine. These grapes are free of any rot or sun damage.
Soil Betteravia Sandy Loam
Vinification The grapes were harvested on September 19th and were crushed and macerated on the skins for a few hours (a process common in the Wachau where Graham trained). The juice is fermented in stainless steel until Dry (5g/L). Malolactic fermentation is blocked.
Aging Aged for one year in the winery, and one year in bottle before release.
Production 120 cases produced.
Notes "2015 was a warm year in California. It took extra special care to develop flavors in the vineyard while not over-ripening to retain plenty of natural acidity. I am very happy with how the wines turned out." - Graham Tatomer
Publication Vinous Rating 92
Graham Tatomer's 2015 Riesling Kick-On Ranch is rich and super-expressive. Orchard fruit, dried flowers and floral-infused honey flesh out in the glass. The Kick-On is distinguished by its oily texture and terrific balance. The seven grams of residual sugar are expertly judged.
