François Chidaine Vintage 2018 Bottle Sizes 750ml Country France Region Loire Valley Appellation Montlouis Sur Loire Wine Type White - Still Varietals Chenin Blanc Farming Biodynamic Vineyard Cuvée 'Franc de Pied' comes from ungrafted vines, planed on it's original rootstock, on the tiny 0.2 hectare parcel within Les Bournais. The vineyard site overlooks the loire river and this plot lies close to the cliff's edge. Soil Argilo-calcaire (calcareous clay) over tuffeau (soft white limestone). This type of tuffeau is specifically known as "Bournais". Viticulture Chidaine farms biodynamically. The vine are pruned by “Guyot and “Gobelet” methods to produce a 35hl per hectare yield. No chemical plant protection products are used in the vineyard. The soils are plowed. Honey and nematicides are sown in the rows. The preparations used only come from processed vegetable, animal and mineral materials. The qualities and peculiarities of each terroir are thus respected. All vineyard harvesting is does manually. Vinification After pressing, the alcoholic fermentation is carried out by indigenous yeasts in half barrels, 600 liters capacity. It can last up to six months. The "malolactic fermentation" is not sought. The wine rests on the lees, always in big barrels. Vinified sec. Aging Aged approximately 10 months on the lees in the demi-muids.
