Vineyard Cuvée 'Franc de Pied' comes from ungrafted vines, planed on it's original rootstock, on the tiny .2 hectare parcel within Les Bournais. The vineyard site overlooks the loire river and this plot lies close to the cliff's edge.
Soil Argilo-calcaire (calcareous clay) over tuffeau (soft white limestone). This type of tuffeau is specifically known as "Bournais".
Viticulture The vineyard is farmed biodynamically. No chemical plant protection product is used. The soils are plowed. Honey plants and nematicides are sown in the ranks. The preparations used solely from plant, animal and mineral materials processed.
Vinification After pressing, the alcoholic fermentation is carried out by indigenous yeasts in demi-muids, 600 liters capacity. It can last up to six months. The "malolactic fermentation" is not sought. The wine rests on the lees in demi-muids.
Aging Aged sur-lie in old demi-muids.
Production Extremely limited
Notes For Chidaine, 2015 was one of the best vintages of the past few years with rich wines, with finesse and concentration, and good length. Unfortunately, it was a small harvest.
