Their Story
“Wine is amazing, one of the many great gifts Mother Nature has to offer. It possesses so many mysterious and inexplicable powers.”
— Scott Schultz, Owner and Winemaker of Jolie-Laide
We believe Scott Schultz to be one of the most exciting and talented winemakers in California. His winemaking method is simple; whole cluster, foot crushed, aged in neutral oak and the outcome is magnificent. Scott works with a handful of growers many of which farm organically; it is in his ability to seek out spectacular vineyard sites which allow him to be hands off in the winemaking process. While Scott makes very little wine, we feel so grateful to share a piece of the Jolie-Laide treasure in South Carolina.
“Our wines are a celebration of the year and seasons in which they were made, always different and unique, no two bottlings are ever the same. ” — Scott Schultz
“Jolie-Laide is one of the most exciting new projects I have come across in some time ... At many times throughout this tasting I was reminded of the young Champagnes of Cédric Bouchard - these wines have a very similar sense of crystalline purity. The wines are made with a high percentage of whole clusters, generally crushed by foot and largely aged in neutral oak. Production is tiny. Readers who can find these wines should not hesitate, as they are nothing short of magnificent.”
