Sangiovese dominates the 8 hectare vineyard which is squeezed between the intense sea light and day breeze of the Mediterranean and the cool night air of the Apennines. Soil Acid sandstone rock pushed down from the Apennines; sliding on calcareous marly limestone. Viticulture Tenuta di Valgiano is certified by ICEA (organic) and by Demeter (biodynamic). The vines are planted at 5700 plants per hectare. Organic and biodynamic farming have been adopted: careful management of the soil through seeding leguminous, gramineae and aromatic plants, sensitive use of tillage, clay, copper and sulphur treatments only, biological action against parasites, and sensitive management of the leaf canopy. Analyses are carried out on the deep layers of soil in order to gain a better understanding of the natural vine-climate-soil balance and therefore ensure that this balance is maintained. Harvest is done manually in small crates. Vinification All vinification is done manually. No pumps are ever used. All pressing occurs by foot. The wine is vinified in small French oak barrels (approximately 5 percent new) for 12 months before settling in cement vats for 6 months. The wines is never fined or filtered. Bottling occurs on "fruit days" and bottles are washed with chlorine-free water. Production 1,300 cases.

The 2015 Tenuta di Valgiano is a total knock-out. Dark, sumptuous and arrestingly beautiful, the 2015 races across the palate with breathtaking intensity in all its dimensions. Crème de cassis, plum, lavender, licorice, spice and menthol are some of the many notes that infuse this exotic, voluptuous edition of the flagship Tenuta di Valgiano. Medium in body and super-refined, the 2015 has it all. What a gorgeous wine it is.
