Vineyard Pickberry Vineyard is situated on the Northeastern slope of Sonoma Mountain in the very small Sonoma Mtn. AVA. There are cool coastal winds in the afternoon and cool nights that result in late ripening (and intense) fruit. It was initially planted in 1986 on AxR rootstock with an unknown clone, (classic for early days Sonoma) and then Approach Grafted with 110 rootstock, and inter-planted with Clone 1 in 1994.
Soil Cobbly loam with outcroppings of basaltic (volcanic) rock.
Vinification The fruit is carefully destemmed and cold soaked in 1/2 ton macro-bins. The average temperature of the must is in the mid 60s, resulting in fermentations that often last 3 weeks. No punchdowns or pumpovers, instead hand-mixing multiple times daily to integrate the cap.
Aging Aged in 10% new, 90% neutral french oak, composed partially of puncheons, for approximately 18 months.
Production 248 cases
