Hyde Chardonnay 2019

Vintage 2019 Bottle Sizes 750ml Country United States Region California Appellation Napa Valley Wine Type White - Still Varietals 100% Chardonnay. Vineyard Hyde Vineyard is situated on gently rolling slopes of the Carneros appellation, on the Napa side. The chardonnay vines were planted in 1992. Summer temperatures are kept relatively cool by marine air flowing through the Petaluma Gap. Ancient creek beds provide drainage and add a scattering of rocks. Soil The soils are quite heavy clay loam about 30 inches deep with impenetrable clay subsoil which limits vine vigor and crop yield. Vinification The grapes are whole cluster pressed and fermentation occurs in new french oak barrel. Malolactic fermentation did not occur. Aging Aged approximately 6 months in new French oak barrel. Notes "The grapes for this wine are harvested from one of the famous Chardonnay vineyards of California, planted by Larry Hyde in Carneros in 1979. The entire estate is an expanse of rolling hills with southeast exposure. The parcel of Musque clone of Chardonnay that make up this bottling were planted in 1992. The wine is fermented and aged in French oak, then bottled as this single vineyard wine. A portion of the Hyde Chardonnay is set aside each year to blend into our white wine, Annia." - Dan Petroski
