Haynes Vineyard Old Vine Chardonnay 2014

Enfield Wine Company Vintage 2014 Bottle Sizes 750ml Country United States Region California Appellation Coombsville - Napa Valley Wine Type White - Still Varietals 100% Chardonnay Vineyard The Haynes Vineyard is a noble site and home to the oldest Chardonnay vines in the Napa Valley - planted in 1966. Cool morning air off San Pablo Bay sinks down in the Coombsville bowl and creates a long, mild growing season. The vines are planted in deep, alluvial cobblestone topsoil with a layer of white volcanic ash that stores tiny amounts of moisture and allows the fruit to maintain natural acidity and develop an elegant and refined minerality. Soil Alluvial Cobblestone & Volcanic Ash Viticulture The vines are pruned using both Cordon and Cane methods. Cane pruning naturally protects against sterile shoots. Vines are over 49 years of age. Yields are 40 to 45 hl/ hectare. Vinification The Chardonnay grapes were partially foot tread and left on the skins for several hours. The juice was barrel fermented with native yeast in 2 neutral 500 L puncheons and aged on its own lees for 16 months. It was bottled un-fined and unfiltered. Aging Aged for 16 months in puncheon on the lees. Production 2 Puncheons. Notes The 2015 Haynes Chardonnay is a rare and remarkable wine. A late season heat wave caused sugars to spike before acids had a chance to drop. The result is a combination of power and natural acidity unlike any I have experienced in California Chardonnay. The level of alcohol and acid prevented ML fermentation from occurring, despite 14 months in barrel with no SO2. Back to Current Releases
