Vineyard Just below the family's monopole vineyard Le Clos about 300 meters down the hill lies the lieu-dit "Champagne." The vineyard is approximately 1.5 hectares of low yielding 70 to 100+ year old Gamay vines. The town considers this one of the finest terroirs in Fleurie.
Soil Pink granite soil
Viticulture As with all of Dutraive's vineyards, lieu-dit Champagne is organically farmed and worked by hand.
Vinification Carbonic maceration with no added sulfer and natural yeast.
Aging 12 months in futs de chene (barrel). Approximately 25% new.

Limpid violet. Pungent, oak-spiced red and blue fruit and floral scents are lifted by a smoky mineral note and a hint of white pepper. Palate-staining black raspberry, boysenberry and cola flavors show excellent clarity and back-end thrust. Finishes sappy, sweet and impressively long, featuring subtle vanilla and floral pastille notes.
