Domaine de la Grand’Cour (Dutraive)

Wine Type Red - Still
Farming Certified organic
Vineyard Just below the family's monopole vineyard Le Clos about 300 meters down the hill lies the lieu-dit "Champagne." The vineyard is approximately 1.5 hectares of low yielding 70 to 100+ year old Gamay vines. The town considers this one of the finest terroirs in Fleurie.
Soil Pink granite
Viticulture As with all of Dutraive's vineyards, lieu-dit Champagne is organically farmed and worked by hand.
Vinification Carbonic maceration with no added sulfer and natural yeast. Vinification occurs in concrete before aging in futs de chene (barrel). Wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal SO2 added.
Aging Aged for 8 months in futs de chene (barrel). Youngest barrel from 2015. No new oak was used.
Production Only 11 barrels were produced. 2017 yields were a mere 16hl/ ha.
Notes After a devastating year in 2016 with 90% yield lost due to weather, again the domaine was struck by a major hailstorm in July 2017 which destroyed approximately 90% the domaine's vines including all of La Chapelle des Bois and much of Le Clos which sits right across the small dirt road. Lieu-dit Champagne was also heavily affected by the storm in July as yields ended up being only 16hl/ ha.
