Their Story

“We don’t make wine by numbers, recipes, or additions, but we aren’t zealots … unless we’re talking about that spicy fried chicken.” — Hardy Wallace

Dirty & Rowdy Family Winery is the story of The Dirty and The Rowdy. The Dirty is Napa based winemaker Hardy Wallace and his wife Kate Graham. The Rowdy is Atlanta based husband and wife, Matt and Amy Richardson. Hardy and Matt became close friends while living in Atlanta, Georgia. After Hardy moved to California, he began working with the iconic Cathy Corison in Napa Valley. It was in 2010, when Hardy teamed up with Matt and founded Dirty & Rowdy. With a focus on working with southern French grape varieties, specifically Sémillon and Mourvèdre, Dirty & Rowdy has taken not only the country but the world by storm creating wines as sought after in London as they are in New York City.

The Dirty & Rowdy wines are full of life, energy, and typicity; textured wines, joyous wines.

Hardy is now making what many believe to be the purest examples of Mourvèdre in California. Dirty & Rowdy source their grapes from a handful of phenomenal small growers who focus on organic viticulture. Hardy believes this to be important not only for environmental reasons but also important for his style of winemaking. The Dirty & Rowdy wines are vinified naturally. All their fruit is picked by hand, only natural yeasts are used in the cellar and no sulfur is used at bottling.
